AMONG VINEYARDS AND CASTLES
90 Sqm | Bellinzona
Project Description
The newly built residence stands just above the city of Bellinzona, nestled on a hill. It is the capital of Ticino that was chosen to spend their holidays by a couple from inland Switzerland.
With particular attention to the principles of the ancient Feng Shui philosophy, the architectural project of the AM Progetti studio aims to promote the correct flow of energy into space.
The interiors, entrusted to the interior design studio of Lugano MD Creative Lab, were designed in phase after the casting of the reinforced concrete structures. This allowed to study in detail the internal circulation and to prepare a whole series of systems such as concealed lighting bodies, speakers for the diffusion of audio and the home automation system.
With its 83 square meters area, the apartment has almost no right-angled walls. To overcome this technical-architectural peculiarity, a design solution was found which consists in the use of a single flooring material, which runs through the whole apartment in a diagonal installation design. This trick is used to deceive the eye, subtracting references from view, extending the space. Having the opportunity to get to know the home owners still in the initial phase of the rough construction, it allowed to carefully study the color scheme and find combinations of materials and finishes, which would reflect their needs.
Guest bathroom
A semi-recessed washbasin, generous in its dimensions, stands out for its reduced depth of the oak storage unit – only 35 cm. which allows the greater usability of the space, without sacrificing comfort. The hand-spatulated resin wall acts as a backdrop for the composition of organic backlit mirrors.
The semi-curved shower is underlined by a specific technical coating for the molded glass fiber showers. Below there is a pair of retractable luminous bodies to create a relaxing atmosphere: the micro retractable spotlights on the ceiling are specifically designed for damp rooms.
Living room
Going along the curvilinear corridor you reach the living room which opens towards a large window overlooking the garden.
The particular visual comfort in the living room is guaranteed thanks to the total disappearance lighting, in the ceiling and in the library itself. While the built-in speakers in the ceiling (already set up during casting) spread music for a perfect moment of relaxation or entertainment.
The bookcase acts as an anchor in the space between the living room and the kitchen. Its strength is in combining a few elements such as wall paneling, showcase, picture holder, suspended containers, in order to give rise to a valid furnishing solution.
The composition of furnishings gravitates around the round carpet. Characterized by a combination of pastel tones and geometric shapes, this gives the living room a distinct air. In the center 3 light tables of different material and height allow you to easily reconfigure the arrangement to your liking, giving you the opportunity to compose different support solutions.
The seats are few, but very comfortable: a sofa raised from the ground, with a backrest and armrest of limited thickness, accentuates its ethereal and extremely flexible aspect. Opposite, a comfortable reading armchair with a tailored package. Upholstered in leather on the back and in fabric on the inside, the seat has a swivel base – with metal legs.
Kitchen
Open to the living room, this kitchen has a rather generous peninsula. This made it possible to completely eliminate the need for a dining table, leaving the movements more comfortable. The combination of materials in this kitchen is truly rich: the “London gray” matt lacquer, the Calacatta effect stone cladding, the natural oak. Balanced harmoniously through the principles of contrasting warm and cold shades.
A particular lightness is due to the absence of hanging elements, replaced with practical shelves. The open compartment in wood, facing the living area, is perfect for storing glasses, cookbooks, but it is also practical as a “charging station”, thanks to the integrated sockets.
The peninsula in totally waterproof and scratch-resistant material floats above the surface of the floor with a light glass support to support it. Around the padded and leather-covered stools are equipped with backrests, this makes them extremely comfortable for sitting for a long time.
Hidden behind the kitchen doors are the appliances, such as dishwasher and even a washing machine. A rather unusual, but practical solution for small and medium-sized apartments, where there is no possibility of using a dedicated room or area.
To crown the island a poetic borosilicate glass lamp, silk-screened with the help of robots, diffuses a soft light in the evening, and then disappears completely during the day. The technological treatment of this lamp culminates with the insertion of a sensor, which allows you to adjust the light by simply approaching the object, without touching it.
Master bedroom
Wrapped in warm tones, this bedroom has all the properties to be a relaxing space. Delicate and elegant, the wall covering like a chameleon transforms throughout the day and takes on a vibrant coppery appearance in the evening. A couple of tables, one of which with a drawer, is a valid lighter alternative to the traditional bedside table. A compact double bed whose apparent simplicity finds its strengths in the purity of the lines, in the preciousness of the materials used as leather and in the refinement of the black nickel details. A silk curtain accompanies the rich and restful shades of powder pink, enchanting in the evening hours.
The slightly irregular shape of this room has been corrected thanks to the wool rug of an organic shape. It makes the eye no longer perceive the angles between the bed and the closet opposite.
The natural oak door also has the same finish on the thick shelves and leads to the en suite bathroom.
Master bathroom
To visually extend the boundaries of this bathroom, the container mirror with integrated lighting that reaches the ceiling was used. The clean horizontal cut is a practical open niche in black lacquered metal, which transitions to the raw ceramic cladding. The same is inspired by the natural scenery of the rain.
A shower characterized by a continuous floor in porcelain stoneware is entirely covered in wallpaper for damp environments which waterproofs and decorates the walls in a single system. A deeply material and consistent texture, a carefully balanced chromatic balance, looking for a calm and reflective environment.
The bathroom is illuminated by totally disappearing spotlights on the ceiling and wall, which allow you to choose a light scenario according to your mood.
Study / guest bedroom
Few colors, numerous textures: woven carpet, net curtain, the coffee table made of agglomerated concrete with black ebony marble chips. A subtle golden touch is a strand of unexpected light. A subtle trace between earth and sky that only gives a sudden brass sparkle. A light knitted curtain with delicate reflections and fluid drapes is used to decorate the window. A black thread in the warp generates a three-dimensional effect. Discreet and practical, the bed, completed by an elegant basque cover and roller cushions, from single bed to double bed.
